Five Great Concerts to Catch in 2011

One of the best things about any new year is all the great concerts that are just around the corner. A lot of popular bands and artists are touring this year, so here are five great concerts you should catch:

Eric Clapton. Some people get better with age. Eric Clapton is definitely one of them. The English bluesman-cum-rocker released his last CD last fall (simply titled Clapton) and he's now touring in support of it. In 2011, Clapton will hit big venues in Portland, Sacramento, and Las Vegas before heading over to the U.K. Be sure to check out a gig so you can hear classics like "Layla" and "Crossroads" played the way they were meant to be played: live. Rush. It seems like this Canadian band has been around forever with hits dating back to the 1970's but guess what? They're still going strong and are quite possibly more popular than ever. The band's classic songs "Tom Sawyer" and "Spirit of the Radio" are still played on the radio and the guys appeared in the 2009 film I Love You, Man.. This year finds the trio hitting the road for another leg of their successful Time Machine tour with stops in Austin, Los Angeles, and The Gorge, Washington among other places. Check them out if they come to a town near you. They're fantastic live. Katy Perry. Katy Perry, everyone's favorite pop chanteuse, will play some of her biggest hits when she hits the stage this summer. Thanks to her unique look and popular, chart-topping such songs as "Teenage Dream" and "Hot and Cold," Katy's shows promise to be great. Katy will begin her tour in the U.K. and will hit North America in June with gigs in Boston, Toronto, Denver, and Vancouver, B.C. Hit one of her shows if you're in the mood for great pop music. Kylie Minogue. Australian pop diva Kylie Minogue has legions of devoted fans overseas (especially in the U.K.), but her popularity in the U.S. waxes and wanes. Her 2010 album Aphrodite was a big dance hit in the States, so she's decided to do some North American dates in 2011 to promote the album. Her tour starts on April 28 in Montreal and will hit cities such as New York, Orlando, and San Francisco. Be ready to dance if you check out one of the shows because Kylie definitely puts on a great show. Nickelback. If you're in the mood for more Canadian rock, you'll be glad to know that Nickelback will once again be on the road this year. The band hasn't released an album since 2008, but they're still selling out arenas thanks to perennially popular rockers like "This is How You Remind Me" and ballads such as "Photograph." The band will play numerous cities in Canada (Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon) and most major markets in the States (Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Atlanta). Go to a show and get ready to rock.

Concert Dates 2011

There are a lot of big names giving shows this year, so if the above artists and bands aren't quite up your alley, there's a good chance that your favorite performer(s) will be playing. Have a great 2011 and enjoy the show!

Epic Drummers

Hey there drummer fans, I'm here to talk about 5 of the best drummers during their time, you'll probably notice that numbers 4, 3, and 2 are older. Please feel free to comment on this article and give your opinion on who you think are the top 5. Alright lets get started! XD

(NOTE: Number 5-3 are not in order of which ones I think are better, I believe they are all amazing and that only the top 2 are superior drummers.)

Avenged Sevenfold Concert Dates 2011

5. Number 5 is recognized easily from his gigantic drum-kit ranging from some of the highest pitched tom-toms to even the lowest pitched floor toms, he filled in for Korn's drummer when David Silveria parted with band and played an AMAZING drum solo in I Will Protect You, ladies and gentlemen it is mister Terry Bozzio!

Now mister Terry Bozzio's drumming can't be described in words as good as watching in person so head over to YouTube to his solo and other great work, like the one of him working with Chad Wackerman. Their work is made up of so much talent and coordination and timing that I find it unbelievable that they can do this and in a way its actually relaxing.

So when your asked about talented drummers remember to keep this man in mind and I can't find a link to this video but my favorite video of him is included in "Bozzio:Live in Concert" not sure if you can buy it separately but its from the DVD "Bozzio and Wackerman: Solos and Duets". So if you get the chance to buy that I highly recommend doing so. That's it for Terry Bozzio.

4. Number 4 is a very special drummer for he was drumming in 1974 and still drums today, known for his unique drum solo, and was part of a 3-man group whose name is Rush, their song YYZ was featured in Guitar Hero 2, he's fast, he's got rhythm, but most of all he's got drums, give it up for Neil Peart!

One of my favorite drum solos by this fantastic drummer is from the DVD "Rush in Rio", sorry I cant find the video for it so no links but I'd greatly advise buying the DVD.

In my opinion Neil Peart doesn't get enough attention, I mean we hear all about these total crappy artist that get completely overrated like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, but when was the last time we turned on the radio and heard anything about Neil Peart or Terry Bozzio? Moving on to number 3

3. Don't let Louie Bellson's looks fool you for as old as he may be, he is one of the fastest and most important drummers in history, he was the drummer that introduced the double bass drum idea, he also brought in ideas of having more then 2 tom-toms and making bugger kits, without him a lot of today's music wouldn't exist, this man living to be 84 died in 2009. See his solos on YouTube.

In my opinion we need to also give Louie Bellson more credit, I mean he is one of HISTORY'S GREATEST and MOST IMPORTANT drummers, not some 16 boy with the voice of a little girl **coughs Justin Bieber coughs** so next time someone talks about that little girl just play this card on them about Louie Bellson being one of the many great drummers. Rest in peace Louie.

2. This man first played Jazz with a major group in 1937, he played drums til the he died in 1987, living to be 70 years old. He's battled many drummers and even guest starred in the Muppet's just to battle Animal. One of the oldest drummers and also the fastest, receiving the title of "The World's Best Drummer". It it Mr. Buddy Rich.

This is in my opinion the world's best Jazz drummer, and he is an outstanding percussionist, I especially like his battle with Animal of the Muppet's because it's great for kids to watch, and when you watch you see Animal just stop and stare at Buddy in awe, and in the end Animal being a sore loser throws at drum at Buddy which is entertaining for kids.

I just love this drummer so please if your interested in drumming and haven't heard of him you need to look him up. Alright moving on.

1. Now this is indeed my favorite drummer, he inspired me to be a drummer, I love this band and especially their drummer, you might recognize him from his stage name "The Reverend Tholomew Plague " He played for Pinkly Smooth and Avenged Sevenfold, he died last December on the 28th at the age of 28. R.I.P. Jimmy "The Reverend Tholomew Plague " Sullivan, you will always be remembered.

This is in my opinion THE World's BEST Drummer. All I have to say is look this guy up, the band Avenged Sevenfold that he played for had one of the worlds best guitarist and best drummer. They're greatly talented and in 2006 won the Award of best drummer. I want you guys to look him up, he may inspire you, so please look him up.

Rush Touring North America In 2011, Once Again Performing 'Moving Pictures' In Its Entirety

It's a testament to Rush and their music that 30 years after the release of their seminal album, Moving Pictures, fans still want to hear them perform it live.

In 2010, Rush sold concert tickets to 37 markets in the United States and Canada. That tour, which featured the band performing all of Moving Pictures, began in late June in Albuquerque, New Mexico and finished in early October in West Palm Beach, Florida. Rush's 2010 outing was one of the top rock tours of the year.

Avenged Sevenfold Concert Dates 2011

Come 2011, the legendary Canadian progressive rock trio will once again tour North America, and once again they will perform their masterpiece in its entirety.

Moving Pictures came out in February of 1981. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum in 1995 making it Rush's most successful release. The record was produced by the band and longtime collaborator Terry Brown. The landmark album includes one of Rush's most famous songs, "Tom Sawyer," as well as fan favorites "Limelight" and "YYZ."

The trio's 2011 Time Machine Tour kicks off March 30 when Rush visits the Bank Atlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The 13-date outing concludes April 22 when Rush plays the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

Highlights of band's upcoming schedule include Rush at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on April 3; Rush at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on April 12; Rush at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on April 15; and Rush at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan on April 17.

Of course the biggest stop on their itinerary is Rush's April 10 show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The entire trek is officially billed as "Time Machine Tour 2011 - An Evening With Rush, Featuring The Performance Of Moving Pictures In Its Entirety." That should make for an interesting tour shirt.

In addition to playing the seven songs that comprise Moving Pictures (which runs about 40 minutes), fans with Rush tickets will also be treated to selections from the band's impressive 35-plus-year catalog of music. Rush's repertoire contains the classic songs "Closer to the Heart," "New World Man," and "Fly By Night."

For every concert ticket sold, Rush will donate one dollar to Haitian relief efforts, including the charity Doctors Without Borders. Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart will make another donation as soon as their tour is over.

Don't hold your breath for additional North American dates. After rocking the states and the provinces, Rush rushes off to Europe for a series of concerts. Their European excursion begins May 4 in Finland and concludes May 29 in Frankfurt, Germany. While on the continent, Rush is set to visit Stockholm, Malmo, Dublin, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and several cities in the UK, including London.

Once the calendar flips, look for a new Rush album. The band's forthcoming release, Clockwork Angels, is set to drop sometime in 2011.

Rush's Time Machine Tour 2011 Itinerary:

March 30 - Ft. Lauderdale, FL @ Bank Atlantic Center
April 1 - Greensboro, NC @ Greensboro Coliseum
April 3 - Nashville, TN @ Bridgestone Arena
April 5 - Louisville, KY @ KFC Yum! Center

Jones Beach Concerts - Entertaining People For Years

Jones beach is a popular beach resort and is a venue of various concerts other than the general beach activities. Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is an auditorium and is the venue of all the beach concerts. This theater was opened in the year 1952 with the name of Jones Beach Marine Theater. At that time all the concerts at that place were mostly operas. This theater had around 8,200 seats and the first show that was held here was 'A Night in Venice' by Johaan Strauss II. It was produced by the famous film producer Michael Todd. The other shows that were held here include 'Annie Get Your Gun' which had famous Lucie Arnaz.

However, during the 1980s, the character of the Jones beach concerts slowly changed into musicals. The theater also underwent massive renovation under the direction of concert promoter Ron Delsner in the years 1991-1992. From that time onwards the seating capacity of the theater also increased to 11,200. In the year 1998, this capacity further increased to 15,000. In the earlier design the theater had a moat and the stage was at the Zack's Bay quite far away from the beach. Thus the artists were brought to the theater in boats. With a change in the design the moat was filled up and the seats were brought closer to the stage. During the intermissions of the concert the Guy Lombardo Orchestra used to play in the moat on a yacht for entertaining the audience.

Concert Dates 2011

Whenever the day of the Jones beach concert lineup is announced that day becomes a holiday in whole of Long Island. Various brands have also associated themselves with these prestigious concerts such as Tommy Hilfiger bought the naming right of the venue in the year 2002 and for continuous four years the venue had the name of Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach Theater. Then after 2006, Nikon had the right and from that year till date the name of the venue has the name of this company. There are some rules strictly followed in these beach concerts such as no alcohol policy except in the designated VIP boxes and VIP tents.

Bullet For My Valentine - Who Are These Guys?

For the Welsh band, Bullet for My Valentine, it is all about the music. In fact, members have confidently stated that their sound and image will remain despite commercial pressures to the contrary.

Origins of the Band

Avenged Sevenfold Concert Dates 2011

The increasingly popular metalcore band started in 1998 as a cover band known as Jeff Killed John, which focused on the songs of Metallica and Nirvana in its repertoire. It actually recorded six songs that were not released although two were re-made for the debut album of the new band.

At present, Bullet for My Valentine is composed of Matthew "Matt" Tuck on guitars and vocals, Jason "Jay" James on bass, Michael "Moose" Thomas on drums, and Michael "Padge" Paget on guitars. Except for James, all three were in Jeff Killed John; James only entered the new band when Crandle, the former bassist, abruptly left.

Music Influences

At first, Jeff Killed John played as a nu metal band, which is in the tradition of LimpBizkit and Korn, assuming that the music will take them to new heights of popularity with the fans and the record producers. However, as nu metal waned, a change of musical style was agreed upon and thus was born Bullet for My Valentine's metalcore sound.

Metalcore is described as a melding of the influences of heavy metal and hardcore punk. Some music critics describe the band's music as dark, melodic rock with metal inclinations. Thus, members cite bands like Metallica, Pantera, Annihilator, Iron Maiden, and Machine Head as just a few of their musical influences.

Discography 2003-2009

Since its inception in 2003, Bullet for My Valentine merch has kept pace with the popularity of the band's records. In order of the release, the following records are out in the market today:

o The Poison album, released in October 2005 in the United Kingdom and February 2006 in the United States, which attained the highest rating of number 3 on the Top Heatseekers. It has four singles including two from the Jeff Killed John days.

o Scream Aim Fire album, released in January 2008, which topped the Billboard 200 at number 4. Tuck says it is more up-tempo and more aggressive in sound.

Extended plays include Hand of Blood and Road to Nowhere. At present, Bullet for My Valentine is working on a new album in Wales under producer Don Gilmore's direction.

Awards Received

Aside from the brisk sales in Bullet for My Valentine merch, the band has received accolades from various sources. These include "Best UK Single", "Best British Newcomer" and "Best British Band" from Kerrang!; "Best Newcomer" from the Welsh Music Award; and again, "Best British Band" from the Metal Hammer Golden God Award. For a band this young, these awards are indeed significant accomplishments.

And speaking of Bullet for My Valentine merch, these can be bought at their official website as well as in other authorized sites. Merchandise range from caps to skateboard decks, shirts, canvas prints, posters, songbooks and gift certificates.

At present, Bullet for My Valentine is on tour in the United States as well as in European countries, especially in music festivals. With such young talent and confidence, the band may well become the next music legends.

Hard Rockers Kiss Reinvented the World of Glam Rock

The American band Kiss was formed in New York around 1973. Kiss, which was easily identified with excessive face makeup and paint, stage outfits and elaborate performances in concerts, has sold over 19 million records in the U.S. alone and a whopping 80 million records worldwide. The band was awarded with 22 gold records since its formation, despite a history of different band members.

Kiss is well-known for their live performances, having gimmicks like fire-breathing, smoking guitars; blood-spitting; pyrotechnics; and other extraordinary tricks. Because of their entertaining performances and great glam music, Kiss quickly developed a fan base worldwide.

Avenged Sevenfold Concert Dates 2011

Of all American rock and roll artists, Kiss has proved their appealing image for all ages and has successfully promoted itself to a point that exceeds even Elvis Presley's promotion.

The People Behind the Music of Kiss

The original members of Kiss were Gene Simmons, a schoolteacher and bass player, and Paul Stanley, a singer and guitarist, who were both members of a band called Wicked Lester.

When Simmons and Stanley decided to leave Wicked Lester, they brought with them their bad boy image and formed the band Kiss, which later became dubbed as one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the world of popular music.

Kiss became a complete band after recruiting Paul "Ace" Frehley (vocals and lead guitar) and Peter Criss (vocals and drums) through a newspaper advertisement that Stanley and Simmons set out.

The band Kiss produced a series of successful albums throughout the 1970s. With their donning elaborate face make-up and black leather outfits, Kiss instantly became a hit and even adopted their own personas and stage names: Stanley "The Star Child," Simmons "The Demon," Criss "The Cat" and Frehley "The Space Man."

Unfortunately, because of creative differences and substance abuse, Frehley and Criss were both out of the band by 1982. As a result, the band's commercial fortune and fan base decreased during this time.

Without the make-up, Kiss made a major comeback in 1983 and enjoyed a successful resurgence all through the early 1990s. Kiss' original lineup reunited in 1996 and performed in 210 cities for the "Kiss Alive Worldwide Tour." After the tour, Criss was replaced by Eric Singer and Frehley by Tommy Thayer.

The Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum Albums of Kiss

When the original members of Kiss first performed with their raw music in local bars, they eventually impressed a manager named Bill Aucoin and signed a deal with Casablanca Records in 1973.

In 1974 Kiss' self-titled debut album came out, which was filled with crushing, raw music. However, the band's commercial stardom began with their 1975 album "Dressed to Kill," which gave Kiss their signature tune from timeless songs like "Rock and Roll All Nite."

Around 1976 Kiss released "Love Gun" and "Rock and Roll Over," which both went platinum. "Creatures of the Night," their final album with Casablanca Records, was a major success in 1982. In the next year, Kiss dropped their infamous make-up, signed with Mercury Records and reinvented their sound to produce another platinum album called "Lick It Up."

In 1992 the band released the "Revenge" album, which automatically went gold. Then an official Kiss reunion of "The Star Child," "The Demon," "The Cat" and "The Space Man" was filmed by MTV's Unplugged, which was internationally released both on record and on video.

Kiss continued playing their music until 2001. However, through their evolving music, elaborate live acts, outlandish costumes and millions of fans and worldwide, Kiss remains one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the world.

How To Remove "XP AntiSpyware 2011" From Your PC

XP Antispyware 2011 is a new fake antivirus program which has just been unleashed onto the Internet. Despite it's legitimate appearance, this virus is nothing more than a fraud which will try to con you out of your money & passwords. If you are unfortunate enough to have this infection on your PC, then you need to be able to get rid of it in the most complete way to ensure that it will not cause any further issues for your system. This tutorial is going to show you the best technique to get rid of the virus from your PC.

What Is XP AntiSpyware 2011?

Concert Dates 2011

This is what's commonly known to spyware experts as a "malware" (malicious software) infection. Unlike "normal" viruses, which will place a large number of hidden files onto your PC, this type of malware infection will place a working piece of software onto your system, and then use that tool to try and cause all sorts of damage. There are two main issues with this virus - it will try and steal your passwords from any unsecured Internet access you make, as well as continually showing you false antivirus results in an attempt to get you to buy the fake upgrade to the program. This is a fake program and should be removed in the most effective way possible to ensure the smooth operation of your system.

How To Remove XP AntiSpyware 2011

This virus is basically a rogue software program, which means that if you want to get rid of it - you basically just need to be able to use the programs & tools which are going to be able to remove all the malicious parts of the virus. This can be done by either manually removing the files that the viruses uses on your PC, or by using an automated program. Many technically minded people will actually attempt to manually remove the virus' files & settings (which are listed below), but it's important to note that this will actually install a huge number of hidden backup files onto your computer which will be used to reload the virus if it's not correctly removed.

This infection will install the bulk of its program files here:

%UserProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\XP Antispyware 2011

The best way to remove this infection is to use a program called a "malware removal tool". These are software applications which have been specifically designed to scan through your PC and get rid of any parts of the infection that you have on your PC. We've found that a program called XoftSpy is the best to get rid of the XP AntiSpyware 2011 infection, as this tool is the most up to date and reliable. You can use it by downloading it to your computer, installing it and then letting it scan & remove the infected components from it.

Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare - A Fitting Tribute

Album Review

A Note to Our Readers:
When I started this piece, I thought I'd provide readers with all the history behind the album, starting with the untimely death of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, A7X's drummer, and ending with the CD and tour circumstances. But then I realized that most anybody who follows the band already knows this stuff from months of press, and the reason they're here now is to read a music review and answer questions like Should I buy the album or Does this guy know what the @$%* he's talking about?

Avenged Sevenfold Concert Dates 2011

So I'll forego the history and just talk about the music.

The Album:
I'm a huge Dream Theater and Rush fan. I've never gotten into the "mainstream" metal segment, so when this project was passed along, I didn't know how I'd respond to a genre that I have such little experience with. I also knew that Dream Theater's drummer, Mike Portnoy, was filling in for The Rev in studio and on tour. I actually wondered, because of the age/genre differences between the Avenged Sevenfold guys and Mr. Portnoy, if the sound of the album would be altered or incongruous in any way.

I was very surprised.

What I found as I listened to the tracks was a very personal introspection and commentary (something purported to be in low supply for this genre). Another first listening note was how incredibly similar Portnoy's drum sound and playing were to The Rev's. Jimmy had actually recorded his parts for the album at home on an electronic drum kit, so I'm assuming Portnoy used these tracks for reference as he recorded on Nightmare. But the production team did an awesome job of making Portnoy's recordings sound like an A7X mix.

Also present for time-weathered Avenged Sevenfold fans is their classic mixture of hard rock and metal instrumentation. You'll find soaring harmonized electrics with a patina of effects, tasty and clever double bass arrangements, and M. Shadows' gritty, strained tenor that fluctuates between screamcore sections (minimal) and melodic expression.

The entire album is rife with layers, depth exuding from the instrumentation, the lyrics, and band members' musical expression. It's got the dream-esque metal "Nightmare" title track (which scored a #1 on the music charts), it's got the acoustic ballad "So Far Away" (tribute to The Rev), it's got a gospel soloist on "Victim," it's got strings, it's got some awesome piano work in "Fiction," and it's got M. Shadows' all-out screams in "God Hates Us." The entire album has so much more than I was expecting from its genre - in fact, I've been listening to it over and over in my car, not yet growing tired of the music and listening for nuances I haven't yet discovered.

So, my conclusion? The album is true metal, it's true hard rock that morphs into prog rock at times, and it's a very personal and diverse expression from the grieving veteran band. Nightmare succeeds admirably as a hard rock album; more importantly, it is a product The Rev would be honored to have dedicated to his name.

Stand-out Tracks: Nightmare, Welcome to the Family, Buried Alive, Natural Born Killer, So Far Away, Fiction, God Hates Us.

Who Will Listen? Avenged Sevenfold fans, Mike Portnoy fans, Metalheads, Hard and Prog Rock fans, Listeners who want/need to be converted to the genre.

Whats on in Mallorca in June and July 2011

It's official: Summer is here and here are a few ideas of things to do over the coming months.

Head for the beach on the night of 23rd of June to celebrate the eve of Sant Joan with the locals. On or around the 29th, the island's ports pay homage to the patron saint of fishermen, Sant Pere.

Concert Dates 2011

Early this month, jazz fans will be flocking to Cala d'Or - home to a popular week-long annual music fixture. The 2011 International Jazz Festival will be the 15th.

As part of Palma's Corpus Christi celebrations, many of the city's stately mansion buildings open their gates - to reveal magnificent inner courtyards. There are special guided tours on offer - or do your own thing and follow the well-marked Route of the Patios of Palma. Look out for details of classical concerts, which usually take place in some of the larger courtyards.

All around the island there are traditional fairs, celebrating local produce - such as those in Sóller (oranges and lemons), Binissalem (artisanal stone work), Lloseta (shoes), and Selva (herbs). Music and art often form part of the celebrations.

The highlights of what is happening in Mallorca in July.

The balmy summer nights are perfect for the many outdoor events across the island this month - including the annual Torrent de Pareis Concert at Sa Calobra.

The Bellver Castle Music Festival of weekly concerts this month is performed by the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, with the stars twinkling overhead.

'Nit a Nit' is the title of Palma's summer programme of free events, including films, theatre, dance and concerts, which take place in the open air this month and next. Events generally take place at Parc de la Mar, Ses Voltes and Castell Bellver.

2011 marks the 50th edition of the Festival de Pollença, and its half-century anniversary is sure to be marked in a special way. An eclectic mix of concerts takes place this month and through August, in the atmospheric setting of the Santo Domingo Cloister.

In the north-east of the island, the 24th Summer Serenades series of weekly concerts takes place, performed in the lovely gardens of the March Foundation's Sa Torre Cega in Cala Rajada.

Since 1980, the International Folk Dance Festival in Sóller has brought traditional music and dance to the island from all over the world; the hosts are the local "Aires Sollerics", who perform traditional Mallorcan dance. It's colourful, fun and provides an important cultural exchange.

James Taylor Teams With Son Ben Taylor For 2011 US Tour

Would you want to go to a concert with your dad?  Here's an even creepier question, would you want to perform a concert with your dad?  For folk singer Ben Taylor the answer to that question is yes.

Ben's father, legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor, is set to tour the U.S. next year and he's bringing his son along as the opening act.

Concert Dates 2011

The father and son tour gets underway Feb. 26 Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Brady Theater.  The Taylor's final show is set for April 2 in Toledo, Ohio at the Stranahan Theater.

Originally, Ben was only going to play with his father at only eight shows. Probably due to an onslaught of positive responses, Ben's appearances have more than doubled.  The son will now open for all 18 dates of the tour including.

Ben is son of James Taylor and Carly Simon (no pressure there).  Although he's tried to distance himself from his famous parents, Ben has found it difficult since he looks and sounds a lot like his old man.

Ben's first release, 2003's Famous Among the Barns, was with the Ben Taylor Band.  The group released an EP in 2004 before Ben realized he wasn't playing the kind of music he wanted to and moved on.

Ben's first solo release, Another Run Around the Sun, dropped in 2005.  Before teaming up with dear old dad, Ben toured with Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley, and Blues Traveler.  Ben has a sister, Sally Taylor (an older progeny of James Taylor and Carly Simon) who is also singer.

While out on tour, Ben will be supporting his upcoming album, Listening.  It's set to drop sometime in 2011 and is the follow-up to his 2008 opus, The Legend of Kung Folk [Part 1 (The Killing Bite)].

Father Taylor is still supporting his Grammy nominated studio album, Covers (2008), as well as his live album, Live at the Troubadour with Carole King (2010).  Taylor and King toured this past summer in an outing dubbed "Troubadour Reunion Tour With Carole King."  The tour celebrated the 40th anniversary of the couple's first performance together at The Troubadour in West Hollywood.

The elder Taylor has some big dates planned for next year sans offspring.  In April and May of 2011,  James Taylor will be in New York City to perform four shows at Carnegie Hall.

This coming summer, fans can catch James Taylor at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts.  Sweet Baby James is scheduled to take the stage on June 30, July 1, July 3, and July 4.

Delphi - The Sanctuary of Apollo

Leaving the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia behind us, and before reaching the cleft of the Phaidriades, we see on our left the Gymnasion as it was modelled in the 4th century B.C. The formation of the ground divides the area into two long and narrow levels. The lower level is smaller. To the east was the palaistra, with a central court surrounded by colonnades and rooms behind them, the undressing-room, wrestling-pit, ball-courts, etc.

To the west was a large court with a circular basin which served as swimming-pool. After exercising, the youths washed themselves under the spouts in the retaining wall of the upper terrace and then swam in the cold water. The larger, upper terrace included the xystos, a 200 m. long, covered colonnade, where the athletes ran when it was raining, and the paradromis, a parallel track in the open air, where they practiced in fine weather. The area and facilities of the Gymnasion were used not only for physical exercise, but also for lessons, poetry recitals and every kind of cultural activity, as was the case with all the gymnasia in ancient Greece.

Avenged Sevenfold Concert Dates 2011

We continue on our way westwards. To the right is the awe-inspiring gorge, from which emerges the limpid sound of the sacred Kastalian Spring; Apollo's waters flow down generously into the rich green valley. The two great rocks of the Paidriades, Flempoukos to the east and Rhodini to the west, tower above us forbiddingly, and seem to touch the sky. And opposite, at the foot of Rhodini, extends the great Delphic sanctuary, the temenos of Apollo. Surrounded by a built enclosure, it clings to the slope, occupying an almost rectangular space with a particularly narrow and irregular south side.

The main entrance, used by the pilgrims of antiquity, and the visitors of today, is on the southeast corner of the site. In the days of its glory, the holy site must have been the most impressive museum in the world. Elegant edifices, porticoes, official buildings, scattered in a disorderly pattern over the uneven mountain slope, huddling as best as they could to the right and left of the Sacred Way, some of them in a privileged position right by the road-side, others crowding behind, half-hidden, but all of them without exception fashioned with absolute faith in the master of the sanctuary, Apollo Phoibos. And among these buildings, thousands of statues and votive offerings, apart from the more precious ones which were kept in safety within the small, temple-shaped treasuries, as they were called.

It would be difficult and tedious to enumerate here all the ruins and bases of monuments, in the order they occur as the visitor proceeds along the Sacred Way from the entrance towards the temple of Apollo. The careful reconstruction by the painter K. Eliakis and the accompanying annotation will permit readers and visitors to form a mental picture of the shrine as it was in antiquity and to identify the ruins of the respective monuments. It would be worthwhile, however, to mention briefly the dedicatory offerings which stood near the entrance to the sacred precinct. The first base to the right was surmounted by the statue of a bull, dedicated to Apollo by the Korkyraians (circa 480 B.C.). Opposite this offering, stood the first large statuary group, a dedication of the Athenians to commemorate their victory at Marathon. This work must have been made about 460 B.C., by the still young Pheidias, and was composed of 13 bronze statues representing Miltiades and ten mythical heroes of Athens, flanked by the divine figures of Athena and Apollo.

The Athenians had barely set up their splendid dedication, when their friends, the Argives, hastened to offer their own thanksgiving to the god for their victory over the Spartans at Oinoe in Argolis (456 B.C.), and erected two groups of statues, both on the left hand side of the Sacred Way, next to the dedication of the Athenians. The first group represented the "Seven against Thebes", and the second the "Epigones" who avenged the disaster of the Seven by defeating the Thebans. Again, in 414 B.C., following a victory over the Spartans, the Argives set up a classical Wooden Horse on the same site. It was now the Spartans' turn to present their offering. In 405 B.C., they defeated the Athenians at Aigos Potamoi, causing the final dissolution of the Athenian hegemony. With understable pride, therefore, they raised their monument, opposite those of their adversaries. They cut the rock, erected a colonnaded building with 8 columns on the facade, and housed in it 37 bronze statues of their patron gods, of their victorious admiral Lysander crowned by Poseidon, and of the other admirals.

The battle of dedications does not end here, however. In 371 B.C., the Spartans suffered a severe defeat at Leuktra, and shortly afterwards (369 B.C.) the Arkadians, together with the Theban general Epameinondas, invaded Lakonia. Proud of their achievement, the Arkadians erected, in front of the Spartan dedication, their own statuary group, composed of 9 bronze statues portraying the god Apollo and their mythical ancestors. In the same year, the Argives retaliated upon their perpetual enemies, the Spartans. Next to Lysander's group and opposite their old offering, they raised a new one, consisting of 20 bronze statues of their mythical heroes.

We have walked no farther than 50 m. within the sacred precinct, and we have already counted - in our imagination - 95 statues on either side of the Sacred Way. It is therefore impossible to continue like this, and, if we are to see all the important relics of the sanctuary, we shall have to hasten our pace. The first ruins to the left belong to the Archaic Treasury or the Sikyonians (500 B.C.). Architectural pieces from older buildings were re-used in the construction of this treasury, including the rectangular sculptured metopes, which date from circa 560 B.C. and are of particular significance for the history of Greek sculpture. Four of these metopes are now fairly well preserved.

Next, are the remains of one of the most elegant Ionic treasuries in Delphi: the Treasury of the Siphnians. Built in 525 B.C., it was richly adorned with sculptured decoration. The two columns in front of the entrance were in the form of Korai, usually known as Caryatids. The pediment and frieze were decorated with admirable reliefs, which are now displayed in the Delphi Museum and constitute excellent examples of Archaic sculpture.

At this point the Sacred Way describes a curve and ascends obliquely upwards. Immediately after the curve, on the left, is the Treasury of the Athenians. This is a Doric building, the material of which has largely survived, so that archaeologists were able to restore it entirely supplying only very few additions. (The restoration was made on a grant from the Municipality of Athens, before the Second World War). The pediments and metopes were all decorated with reliefs preserved in sufficiently good condition to permit us to appreciate the Attic sculpture of the late Archaic period. Its precise dating has not been established. Some archaeologists believe that the treasury was built after the battle at Marathon, while others support that it was dedicated by the new Athenian democracy (about 505 - 500 B.C.). The walls of the treasury are covered with inscriptions of later date (3rd century B.C. and later), mostly honorific decrees of Athenians. However, among these inscriptions are two of the most important texts of antiquity: two hymns to Apollo, with the musical notation accompanying the text.

Next to the Treasury of the Athenians lie the ruins of the Delphic Bouleuterion (Council House), a rectangular poros building of the Archaic period. Higher up, there is a huge rock, presumably fallen there from the Phaidriades in very ancient times, long before the shrine was given its later arrangement. It was called the "rock of Sibyl", because the ancients believed that the first mythical diviner, who was said to have come from Erythrai in Asia Minor, stood on this rock to prophesy. A little higher, another, levelled rock supported a very tall Ionic column, which was surmounted by the Sphinx of the Naxians. In the same area was the shrine of Gala (Earth) with its spring, which was guarded by Python, the terrible serpent subsequently slain by the new god, Apollo. Further east, in front of the polygonal supporting-wall of the temple terrace, the Athenians erected an elegant Ionic stoa with 8 Ionic columns, to shelter the spoils from their naval victories over the Persians (479 B.C.).

To the right of the Sacred Way, opposite the area with the monuments described above, was a small circular place, the sacred Halos (Threshing Floor). Here were celebrated every eight years the Septeria, a reenacting of the holy drama representing the killing of the serpent by the god.

The ruins of many other treasuries have survived in various less prominent parts of the sanctuary. They all bear testimony to the worldwide fame enjoyed by Delphi, where all the Greek cities aspired to present rich offerings and erect sacred buildings. Archaeologists have identified, with a greater or lesser degree of certainty, the treasuries of the Knidians, Kyrenaians, Potidaians, Akanthians and Corinthians, while a number of other treasuries still remain anonymous.

But it is the god's temple that has pride of place in the great sanctuary. Half-way up the slope, there is a large terrace, supported on the south side by a fine polygonal wall which was intended to provide a firm base for the temple's foundations. On the north side, there is a retaining wall whose purpose was to protect the temple from falling rocks. The temple we see at present, erected in the 4th century B.C., is the third to have been built on that site (not including of course the three mythical temples of which the first was said to have been made entirely of laurel leaves, the second of feathers and wax, and the third of bronze).

The first temple of Apollo was built in the 7th century B.C. and was destroyed by fire in 548 B.C. It was replaced by the Archaic temple of the Alkmeonidai, which was built with contributions by both Greeks and non-Greeks; it is the temple that displayed on its eastern pediment (made of marble) the god's Epiphany to mankind, when he arrived at Delphi on a chariot with his mother, Leto, and his sister, Artemis. This temple, too, was destroyed, in 373 B.C., and was rebuilt between 369 B.C. and 330 B.C., on plans by the architects Spintharos of Corinth, Xenodoros and Agathon. This temple, which was slightly larger than that of the Alkmeonidai (measuring 60.32 x 23.82 m.), was a Doric peripteros, with a surrounding colonnade of 6 columns on the ends and 15 at the sides.

The east pediment was decorated with the same theme as that of the older temple, while the west pediment depicted the setting of the Sun (Helios), and Dionysos with the Thyiades. With the possible exception of the figure of Dionysos, all the other sculptures have perished. The interior arrangement of the temple poses many questions. The damage in several important parts is such that it has led to the supposition that it had been purposely effected, either by the last of the heathens in order to prevent the Christians from desecrating their holy shrine, or by the Christians out of fanaticism.

It is in this temple that the Pythia probably uttered her last oracle, addressed to Emperor Julian, and it was on the walls of the temple's promos that the visitor read those famous engraved proverbs "nothing in excess" and "know thyself", and the mysterious Delphic letter E, the secret significance of which neither the ancient Greeks nor modern scholars have been able to discover. And finally, it was in this temple, as in the ones that preceded it, that the Delphic oracle was sheltered: the adyton, with the oracular tripod and next to it the omphalos, which the ancient Greeks believed to be the tomb of Python. Not far from these ran the waters of the Kassotis Spring. All this information has been obtained from ancient writers. Excavations have not been able to throw additional light on the matter, because the destruction of relevant data was total; even the position and form of the adyton cannot be reconstructed with certainty.

To the north of the temple, on the northwest corner of the sanctuary, lies the theatre, and east of that the famous Lesche (club) of the Knidians, where the great artist Polygnotos painted the sack of Troy and Odysseus' descent into Hades. Finally, at the highest point outside the sanctuary was the Delphic stadion, where the Pythian Games were held. Pindar celebrated these Games in his fine triumphal odes to the Pythionikai (Pythian victors), the most famous among whom were Hieron of Syracuse and Arkesilaos of Kyrene.

The visitor who wishes to experience to the full the beauty of the Delphic site and fill his spirit with the unique vision of its landscape and monuments will discover, as he wanders slowly and reverently through the ruins, the pedestals of celebrated offerings and will read their fine inscriptions: "The Chians dedicated the altar to Apollo" reads the 5th century B.C. inscription on the monumental altar standing at the entrance to the temple, where the preliminary sacrifice to the god was offered. At a small distance, we find a plain uninscribed pedestal, which was surmounted by the gold tripod offered to the sanctuary by 31 Greek cities after the victory at Plataia. Higher up the slope, there were four more gold tripods, dedicated by the four sons of Deinomenes: Gelon, Hieron, Polyzalos and Thrasyboulos, after their victory over the Carthaginians in 479 B.C.

Still further up, to the north-east of the temple, stood the offering of Daochos, the rich Thessalian who erected a statue of Apollo and eight statues of his ancestors, as well as that of himself and his son; among these, the statue of his great-grandfather, Agias, has survived and is now in the Museum of Delphi. Before we end this rather limited selection of famous votive offerings, we feel bound to remind the reader of one of the finest and most important, historically speaking: namely, the votive offering of Krateros, the celebrated general of Alexander the Great. To the north of the north-west corner of the temple, enclosed within a kind of portico, there were several bronze statues representing Alexander the Great and Krateros engaged in a lion-hunt; this offering was the work of two eminent sculptors of that period (320 B.C.), Lysippos and Leochares.

Good Charlotte Turns Out To Be Really Good

Good Charlotte is a pop-rock/pop-punk band formed in 1996. They have had many singles, some of their more popular songs being "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and "Girls and Boys." Their leading members are actually a set of twin brothers. Joel Madden provides the lead vocals, while Benji Madden plays lead guitar and also provides back-up vocals.

The brothers took their band name from a children's book, Charlotte's Web. Their most recent hits have been "Predictable" and "We Believe," which are featured on their new album, "The Chronicles of Life and Death."

Avenged Sevenfold

Though Good Charlotte claims to be a punk band, many critics deride the band for its pop-oriented sound and the band's fans, which mainly consist of teenage girls. Good Charlotte is often categorized as pop punk or pop-rock. Many other punk fans frown on them as well, and the band seems to be decreasing in their popularity among the older group of followers.

Who's in the Band?

Joel Madden: Vocals and occasional third guitar

Benji Madden: Second guitar and backup vocals

Billy Martin: Lead guitar and keyboards

Paul Thomas: Bass

Aaron Escolopio: Drums (1996-2001)- left to join Wakefield

Dusty Brill: Drums (2001-2002)- temporary

Chris Wilson: Drums (2002-2005)- left because of medical conditions

Where Are They Now?

Good Charlotte has since overcome their popularity issues that they dealt with in the beginning of their career. They have continued touring and promoting their music. Good Charlotte is a fan favorite worldwide. Their music is now appreciated by fans of all ages.

Their most recent tour was worldwide and entitled "The Noise to the World" tour. They have had some creative album names, such as "Young and the Hopeless" and their most recent album release of "The Chronicles of Life and Death." They have managed to keep entertaining us over the years while overcoming the controversy in the beginning. Fans are anxiously awaiting the release of their next album.

It was rumored that the lead singer of Good Charlotte was dating Hillary Duff. This bit of media attention helped them entertain the younger fans while still maintaining to satisfy longtime followers with their talent and lyrics. Good Charlotte maintains a grueling year-round touring schedule, and you can probably expect to see them at an arena near you soon. Many who take the time to listen to Good Charlotte soon turn into fans of their music.
