What to Say and How to Act on Your First Date

You know your story. You know you. Your date just met you. Just think what the person opposite you is thinking when they and listening to you go on about a past love or the ex did this or that. Not a very pleasant experience. Your first date is to find out if you both want to go to the second date. The fastest way to secure zero chance of a second date is to talk about the ex on the first date.

Have a few things mapped out in your mind on what to talk about before the first date is a bit of a help. It will help you also to relax and there will be less of a struggle for something to say on the night. Most people agree, that keeping the conversation light and fun, is the safe way to go. No politics, no religion, no horror stories. But, don't over plan. Keep it natural and let the conversation flow. Show interest in your date. Keep good eye contact, but don't stare. Smile, laugh and show your humorous side. It's not the time to tell all the jokes you know, but funny stories or witty charm is always desirable. The best way to get someone to talk is ask something about your date. What do you like to do for fun? Do you have hobbies? You don't want to make it feel like an interrogation, just that you are interested in them. Listen; don't just hear what they are saying. Then you will be able to make follow up comments and questions.

Your date will be paying attention to how you treat others. Do you treat strangers with respect? Are you rude, do you interrupt; do you often use foul language? Social skills are so important in making a positive first impression. Manners will go a long way to take you from the first date to the second and beyond.

The way you speak can be almost as important as what words you say. The volume and tone of your voice should be pleasing to your date. Too loud and it will be embarrassing, too soft and you won't be heard. A smile on your face will say everything and smiling is contagious and will relax a situation, but it must be genuine nothing is worse than a fake smile. And visually, your date will feel more welcomed if they see that you are enjoying yourself.

Just because you say a thing or two that might not have been "perfect" doesn't mean you won't get to the second date. But, to raise your odds, pay attention to the details of what you are saying. And most importantly, keep it honest and be yourself!!!
